Four options for incoming PCSD Kindergarten families next school year

The Parma City School District can’t wait to meet our incoming kindergarteners and their families next school year‭!  ‬

Did you know that the PCSD is offering incoming kindergarten students and families different program options‭?‬

We are proud to continue expanding our efforts to meet the needs of all learners by offering four options for incoming Kindergarten students beginning in the 2020-2021‭ ‬school year‭. ‬

The four offerings include Kindergarten Launch Academy‭, ‬Traditional Kindergarten‭, ‬STEM Project-Based Learning Kindergarten and Early Entrance Testing‭.  ‬

 

Kindergarten Launch Academy 

  • We’ve listened to feedback from parents and teachers indicating some of our students would benefit from an alternative step between‭ ‬preschool and full-day kindergarten
  • Will be rigorous instructional program with focus on phonological awareness‭, ‬vocabulary‭, ‬foundational math skills and problem solving
  • Upon completion of Kindergarten Launch Academy‭, ‬students would enter traditional Kindergarten the following school year
  • For children turning five-years-old between May 1‭ ‬and September 30‭, ‬2020
  • The deadline for registration for Kindergarten Launch Academy is May 15‭, ‬2020

 


Traditional Kindergarten

  • Students in full day kindergarten are expected to self-regulate‭, ‬communicate with their peers and teachers‭, ‬and problem solve
  • PCSD Kindergarten students are engaged in a rigorous instructional program including HMH Into Reading‭, ‬Math Expression‭, ‬Science‭ ‬Fusion‭, ‬Reading Mastery and Social Emotional Learning
  • For children turning five-years-old before September 30‭, ‬2020
  • Registration for kindergarten is open throughout the year

 


STEM Project-Based Learning Kindergarten

 

  • STEM Project-Based Learning option prepares learners for 21st-century demands through an innovative trans-disciplinary STEM environment and real-world project-based experiences
  • PCSD STEM Kindergarten students share thoughts and ideas with others‭, ‬work with a team to reach a common goal‭, ‬solve problems and work independently‭ ‬
  • PCSD STEM Kindergarten students are engaged in a rigorous instructional program including HMH Into Reading‭, ‬Math Expression‭, ‬Science Fusion‭, ‬Reading Mastery and Social Emotional Learning
  • Parents must complete the application process to be assigned a number for the random selection process
  • For children turning five-years-old before September 30‭, ‬2020
  • The deadline to register for STEM Project-Based Learning Kindergarten is May 15‭, ‬2020

 
Early Entrance Testing

  • Early entrance is designed for the exceptional child who is both academically ready as well as developmentally mature when compared to others his or her chronological age
  • PCSD Kindergarten students are engaged in a rigorous instructional program including HMH Into Reading‭, ‬Math Expression‭, ‬Science‭ ‬Fusion‭, ‬Reading Mastery and Social Emotional Learning
  • Students will be tested in accordance with Ohio Department of Education Model Policy for Academic Acceleration
  • A parent may request Early Entrance Kindergarten Testing if their child turns five years old after September 30‭, ‬2020‭ ‬and before‭ ‬January 1‭, ‬2021
