PCSD Celebrates Veterans Day Virtually

November 19, 2020

KLA Veterans Day

Schools throughout the Parma City School District honored our veterans in special ways during Veterans Day on November 11, 2020.

Even though these Veterans Day celebrations looked a lot different this year than the usual traditions of assemblies, parades and breakfasts, students and staff took time to salute our brave men and women virtually.

Many schools spent time talking and learning about Veterans Day, wearing red, white and blue, coloring pictures and writing stories.

Hillside Middle School created a virtual veterans day program filled with stories, tributes and photos, while Valley Forge High School placed a special wreath at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at the school.

At Dentzler Elementary, video tributes, photo slideshows and decorating the building were the highlights of the day.

“Since we were unable to do an in-person assembly, we still wanted to show our veterans our care and appreciation for their service and bravery,” shared Natalie James, Dean of Students at Dentzler Elementary School.  “Our Veterans Day Committee met and decided to decorate the building as well as do a virtual program so that we could share it with our families and show our appreciation to our cherished veterans.”

Denzler also recorded special morning announcements and had third grade students read special stories and poems.

“On top of showing our veterans the appreciation they deserve, we felt it was important to keep everything as normal as possible for our students and families,” James expressed. “This is a long-honored tradition for our building, and it was important to keep something that we celebrate each year still in place because our veterans, staff, students, and families look forward to it.”

The school usually holds a fundraiser for the Greater Cleveland Fisher House, which supports military and veteran families while a loved one is in the hospital.

This year, the school chose to donate all proceeds from their election day bake sale to the PEA Food Drive but plans to collect donations to the Fisher House next year!

Thank you to all of our brave men and women who served our country today and always!
