Annual Fathers Walk a great way to start school for many PCSD students

Dentzler Elementary Fathers Walk

September 23, 2019

Fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, father figures, role models, neighbors, friends and other special guests walked their student to school on Thursday, September 19, 2019 for the annual Fathers Walk.

Fathers Walk is a county-wide initiative started by the Healthy Fathering Collaborative of Greater Cleveland, The Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative, Global Parenting Network and Passages Connecting Fathers and Families, Inc. The event encourages fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, father figures, role models and family friends to not only walk to school with their child but also be active in their child’s education and spend time together.

Elementary and middle schools across the Parma City School District held events where students and their special guests walked to school and enjoyed a morning together with breakfast and other activities. Greenbriar, Hillside and Shiloh Middle Schools hosted events at their buildings for students and their role models. After students walked to school, each building had breakfast snacks and photo opportunities. Hillside also had corn hole games set up outside for students and guests to play.

At the elementary school level, students and special guests participated in many activities once they arrived at school. Many Title I programs and PTA units helped make the morning special, with books, breakfast, arts and crafts, and photo frames and backdrops.

A few highlights --

Dentzler families gathered outside the school and walked around the building, while PTA hosted a ‘Donuts with Dad’ event. Thoreau Park also had ‘Donuts with Dad’ along with a book giveaway and playtime on the playground.

Pleasant Valley welcomed everyone with muffins, crafts and playground time.

Green Valley held an activity in the gym while enjoying donuts and time together before school started.

Ridge-Brook, John Muir, Renwood and Parma Park all hosted events at their building to celebrate the annual tradition. To view photos from Fathers Walk, please visit our photo gallery at
