Parenting in the 21st century can present a wide variety of challenges for families. To help parents navigate some of these challenges and issues, the Parma City School District (PCSD) and Cuyahoga Community College present “Parma Parent University”.

During the course of the 2019-2020 school year, Parma Parent University will provide informative and entertaining workshops for parents who wish to discuss and learn more about a variety of subjects which affect children today.

Parma Parent University is free and open to parents who have students enrolled in the Parma City School District.

"We recognize that parenting is hard, children don't come with handbooks,” Audrey Holtzman, Administrative Specialist for Enrollment and Registration expressed. “Through this partnership with Cuyahoga Community College's Western Campus, we are able to bring content experts directly to our Parma parents.”

The first Parma Parent University workshop, “Social Media & Internet Safety: What Parents Need to Know,” will look at the effect of social media, the internet and other digital platforms have on today’s children and families. Presented by a parent, for parents, the workshop will have a heavy focus on video games, social media, cell phones, along with their use and everyday impact.

“Social Media & Internet Safety: What Parents Need to Know” will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 beginning at 6:00 PM. The workshop will be held at Normandy High School, 2500 West Pleasant Valley Road in Parma. Interested parents are asked to pre-register for the event at www.parmacityschools.org. Attendees can also enjoy light refreshments and raffles for gift cards at each workshop session.

“Social Media & Internet Safety: What Parents Need to Know” will be facilitated by Kevin A. Berg, Ph.D., a counselor and Assistant Professor at Cuyahoga Community College’s Western Campus. Attendees to Parma Parent University will also have the opportunity to provide input on future topics discussed at upcoming workshops.

The PCSD plans to have a number of Parma Parent University workshops throughout the 2019-2020 school year. For more information and for upcoming events, please visit the PCSD website at www.parmacityschools.org.
