A message from Superintendent Charles Smialek, Ph.D.

August 12, 2019

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year!

We look forward to sharing with your children and families ten months of “firsts”, milestones, and annual traditions.

Being a part of the second largest school district in Cuyahoga County affords all of us opportunities that simply are not available to others from smaller communities. We are excited to create unique experiences that will strengthen the pride we feel as members of the Parma City School District!

We organize all of our efforts around three clear goals:

    • Practice fiscal responsibility.
    • Improve student achievement.
    • We will increase our transparency throughout our communities.

We will continue to collaborate with residents, parents, and staff members to form specific action steps to help us progress toward each goal.

In the immediate future, we encourage you to register to receive a copy of our weekly e-newsletter, the Monday Monitor. Please visit www.parmacityschools.org/monitor to register to receive weekly this publication in your email inbox.

In addition to registering to receive this form of communication, we encourage you to like us on Facebook (Parma City School District) and follow us on Twitter (@ParmaSchools, @CharlesSmialek).

We are committed to communicating as often as possible with all families and look forward to sharing with you through these fora the many impressive accomplishments of our students and staff members.

We also invite you to attend our Opening Kick-Off at Byers Field on August 17 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Our schools and extra-curricular activities will establish displays for you to visit and we will also host many activities for family members of all ages. This exciting event will help you to truly understand all that our school district has to offer to every member of our community!

Our staff members have all spent countless summer hours preparing lessons, cleaning and readying our myriad hallways, classrooms, cafeterias, and gymnasiums, and renewing our enthusiasm for the mission we are so proud to pursue: helping your children to be better when they leave our classrooms than when they enter them.

We “Expect the Best” for the 2019-20 school year and we know you will hold us to this commitment. We can’t wait to begin!
