Save The Date!
The third annual PCSD Opening Kick-Off will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Byers Field from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Join the Parma City School District as we celebrate the beginning of another great school year with fun events and activities for all ages! This community-wide event is free and open to everyone.
“The PCSD Opening Kick-Off is a great way to bring our community together to see what the Parma Schools are all about,” expressed Dan Rajkovich, public relations supervisor for the district. “The goal of this event is for families and community members to have a fun afternoon with students and staff from the Parma Schools while learning something new or getting important information about our district.”
Like the past two years, the event will feature high school athletic teams practicing on the field, marching band performances, and Career and Technical education programs on display. Students in programs like Biotechnology, Dental Technologies, Culinary Arts, Cosmetology, Welding and Visual Communications will show the community first-hand what they have learned.
PCSD Opening Kick-Off features the Drive 4 UR School fundraiser hosted by Bob Gillingham Ford and The Parma City Schools Foundation, Inc. Any driver over the age of 18 can test drive a new car, and every test drive will donate $20 back to the school or school program of the driver’s choice.
Last year, this unique fundraiser brought in almost $5,000 for the schools and the Parma City School Foundation, directly supporting teachers and students throughout the district.
“The Drive 4 UR Students fundraiser is a unique and easy way for parents to raise money for their school and student programs,” Rajkovich added. “We’re grateful to have such wonderful community support from local businesses like Gillingham Ford. They are certainly dedicated to our school district and our students, and we thank them.”
PCSD Opening Kick-Off will also feature a 30 foot rock climbing wall, courtesy of the Boy Scouts of America, along with a number of carnival games for students to win prizes. Groups like the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Adventure Guides, Adventure Princesses and Cub Scouts will have information for interested families.
A resource fair with every PCSD department and school will be available for the public to visit, gather information and get any questions answered.
Community organizations and programs will also be represented at the 2019 Opening Kick-Off. Parma Area Family Collaborative, University Hospitals Parma Medical Center, Cuyahoga County Public Library, community recreation departments and the YMCA will also have information available for families.
There will also be meet and greet sessions with administrators and board members as well as games, activities, giveaways and prizes for all attendees. Local food trucks from Swensons and Hokulia Shave Ice will be stopping by serving up their specialties. WBWC 88.3 FM The Sting, Baldwin Wallace’s radio station, is scheduled to DJ the event.
“This event keeps growing, and we hope it will be even bigger and better this year,” Rajkovich added. “We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the Parma City Schools this August.”
