Pleasant Valley Sends Warm Wishes to Senior Citizens

December 23, 2020

Fourth graders at Pleasant Valley Elementary School are sending warm holiday messages to senior citizens of our communities.

Every year, Pleasant Valley Fourth Grade Teacher Kelly Chismar and her students coordinate a gift drive for local nursing homes. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic, a gift drive was not possible this year.

Instead, students and staff created holiday and winter greeting cards for residents.

“We sent card making items home with the fourth graders and asked them to send cards back,” Chismar shared. “It was enough that we could make some of the residents a bit happier.”

She said she hopes to return to the gift drive next year to help spread cheer to those in our community.

“I think it’s important for the students to remember there are others outside of their immediate circles,” Chismar expressed. “We talk about how so many senior citizens are alone during the holidays and how great it is to think of others. When we return to school, I hope we can do another round of cards to just brighten their days.”

Pleasant Valley also held a gift card drive to help support families at their building this holiday season. Almost $1,500 in various gift cards were collected and distributed to families in need!
