Principal's Message - April 6

Week of April 6, 2020

At Thoreau Park, we believe it is our mission to increase student achievement and social-emotional health through student-centered instruction, positive family-school partnerships, and providing a safe learning climate.
Per Governor DeWine, schools are now closed through the end of April. We will continue to provide updates as we hear information moving forward.
For distance learning, students will be graded with a pass/fail for their 4th quarter assignments. Every Monday, a new Distance Learning document with assignments will be posted on our webpage. Students are expected to complete the assignments listed for their pass/fail grade. It is highly recommended that these assignments be completed using online platforms. To help facilitate this, the district will be providing access to Chromebooks shortly. Please be alert for communication coming soon on how to request a chromebook.
Limited paper copies will be available and must be requested. Parents can request these online from the distance learning link every Monday with a pick up on Thursday between 9 and 12:30. There will be a table set up just inside the main door with these items labeled by requesting student name.
The PCSD will continue food distribution services during closure. Please check the district website for information on how to sign up.
We want to offer as much support as possible during these closures as well as hear about the good things going on while practicing social distancing. To help facilitate this, please consider taking the following survey, located on this email.
Next week, we will be having a “Where the Wild Things Are” Distance Learning Spirit Week starting on Monday. The daily themes are:
Monday- Watch a video that will be posted of a guest reader. - Write using the posted worksheet. Both of these will be available on Monday on the Thoreau Park main webpage.
Tuesday- Art- draw, paint, or use recycled household items to create a “wild thing.”
Wednesday- PE- Let the wild rumpus begin - make up your own wild dance.
Thursday- STEM- create your own boat using materials around the house.
Friday- Dress like a Wild Thing and sing a wild song.
Post your daily participation on Twitter and tag @PCSDthoreaupark and use the hashtag #TPwildthings. You can also send photos to your teacher or post on the PTA Facebook page.
Parents, as an additional resource consider using the following website as a guide to have conversations with your students about the book.
I encourage everyone to continue to make healthy and safe choices during this unprecedented time to help mitigate the spread of coronavirus. The health and safety of our students, families, and staff is our first priority. That being said, we really miss our students. Please click on the following video for a message from our staff:
As always, you can follow Thoreau Park, an OHIO PBIS Silver Recognized school, on Twitter. Our twitter handle is @PCSDthoreaupark. Thank you.
