Principal's Message - Welcome Back!

At Thoreau Park, we believe it is our mission to increase student achievement through student-centered instruction, positive family-school partnerships, and providing a safe learning climate.

Welcome to Thoreau Park for the 2019-2020 school year.  The school is looking great as we prepare for all of our Panthers to return to school.

I would like to share an exciting celebration for Thoreau Park.  We have been recognized by the state of Ohio as a PBIS Silver School.  This recognition is awarded to a select number of schools for implementing Positive Behavior programs in the school for all students.  Congratulations to the entire Thoreau Park community!

It is not too late to complete Summer Reading.  Parents, please consider using the remaining summer break to continue or introduce your students to the habit of reading at home every day.  Providing dedicated reading time at home is proven to be effective at improving your student’s academics.

Parents of new Kindergarten students can sign up for Readiness Assessments by calling the main office.  These required assessments are important in providing teachers with information about all of our students.

Some dates to keep in mind as we open the year:

  • Wednesday, August 14th is Popsicles with the Principal on Thoreau Park’s playground from 3:30-4:30.
  • Friday, August 16th - class lists will be posted at 5:00 on the front door.
  • Saturday, August 17th is Parma City School District’s Opening Kick-Off at Byers Field.  Thoreau Park will have a table from 10 AM through 11:30 AM.
  • Monday, August 19th is our Pep Rally Open House.  Last names A-L starts at 5:30. Last names M-Z starts at 6:30.
  • Wednesday, August 21st is the first day for students in grades 1-4.
  • Information about Kindergarten opening will be coming on a separate message next week.

As always, you can follow Thoreau Park on Twitter.  Our twitter handle is @PCSDthoreaupark. Thank you and I hope you enjoy the rest of summer.
