Renwood Elementary School has been named a 2021-2023 National PTA School of Excellence recipient!

“From the school's perspective, this is quite an honor,” Renwood Principal Christopher Keating expressed. “I know how hard (former principal) Dr. LaShonda Abdussatar and (former PTA president) Linda Nickles worked on completing all the requirements for this recognition during the 2021-22 school year. We are celebrating Renwood being an elementary school for 70 years during the 2022-23 school year, and this recognition is just part of that celebration.”

According to National PTA, “The National PTA School of Excellence recognition program opens the lines of communication and critical thinking within school communities to make data-driven decisions that yield positive, long-term results. School of Excellence is committed to supporting and recognizing partnerships between local PTAs and schools to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being for all students.”

With this designation comes a banner which the school will proudly hang outside the building.

“It feels really good to know that the hard work we put in has been rewarded and is making a difference for our families at Renwood,” Renwood PTA President Hannah Wilcox shared. “We are thrilled to be starting off our 2022-2023 school year with the School Of Excellence award.”

A few of the highlights Renwood PTA has provided to students and families include Spirit Wear Sale, Fall Fest & Spring Fling (Family nights), Art Reflections program, Candy grams, Spirit Weeks, Smencils for student’s birthdays, Teacher Appreciation Week, Field Day, and other end of the year celebrations.

The main goal for the 2021-22 school year was to improve family engagement.

“We reached our goals by creating more ways of communication with our Facebook group, monthly newsletters, and email updates,” Wilcox described. “Family involvement has grown and we couldn’t be more proud of that.”

Further, Wilcox expressed that the PTA wants to make Renwood’s last year to be the best year for students and families, as the building will be closing after the 2022-23 school year. Some ideas include additional family fun nights and getting more parents involved to plan special surprises and events throughout the year.

“I love how much the PTA does for the staff and students at Renwood,” Keating shared. “I am most proud of the fact that Renwood will always have the honor of being recognized as a PTA School of Excellence. This designation proves how much the Renwood PTA does to support the staff, students, and families of Renwood each year."
