Parma Council of PTAs to Award Over 100 Scholarships This Spring!

January 20, 2021

The Parma Council of PTAs will once again help the graduating seniors of our three high schools make higher education a little more affordable through the annual Scholarship Program!

This long-standing tradition is going strong in its 68th year and will be providing over 100 scholarships in 2021.

There are over 50 sponsors with over $80,000 of scholarships up for grabs by the Class of 2021.

“This year has been a challenge for many since our sponsors usually rely on fundraising throughout the year to support their scholarships,” shared Heather Ekechi, Parma Council of PTAs President. “With COVID-19, many of the traditional fundraising opportunities have not been able to happen, but we are pleased to see so many of our sponsors finding creative ways to help offer some financial support to our seniors.”

Parma Council of PTAs, along with local PTA and PTSA units, school-affiliated groups and community organizations, award scholarships in the spring.

“Our purpose for the scholarships is to help provide some additional funds for the seniors pursuing a post-secondary education,” Ekechi expressed. “We can't afford to pay anyone's full tuition, but our goal is to help spread the wealth throughout the district and help them defray some of the costs.”

Every year, PCPTA celebrates award winners with Winners Circle and Scholarship Dinner events. Last year, special surprise visits were made to each scholarship winner’s house instead of holding large events to keep everyone safe and healthy. PCPTA is hoping to resume these special events, but only when safe to do so. Whether there will be events or special home visits in 2021, there will be recognitions and celebrations for all scholarship recipients.

Any graduating senior from Normandy, Parma Senior and Valley Forge High Schools can apply for scholarships. There are criteria for certain scholarships, but seniors are strongly encouraged to apply for any scholarships they qualify for.

“We have a unique process that helps to identify the kids in many areas, not just in academics, but also in school and out of school activities, sports, work, volunteering and recognitions,” Ekechi described. “There are also scholarships for students who are pursuing career and technical education programs. We are hoping to spread the word to seniors and parents to download our application and apply.”

The deadline to apply is February 5, 2021. Please click the following link for more information and application:
