Parma City School District Statement Regarding Incident at Valley Forge High School

The Parma City School District, in collaboration with the Parma Heights Police Department, is deeply saddened to confirm that the incident at Valley Forge High School has resulted in the loss of a student.

Earlier today, school administrators and staff responded to a reported incident involving a firearm inside the school. Law enforcement and emergency personnel arrived immediately and secured the building. At this time, the situation is contained, and there is no ongoing threat to students or staff. No other individuals were physically injured.

“Our hearts are with the student’s family, friends, staff, and all who are impacted by this tragic loss,” said Superintendent Dr. Scott J. Hunt and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Amy Cruse. “This is an incredibly difficult time for our entire community.”

Out of respect for this loss and to allow time for the school community to process and grieve, Valley Forge High School and Normandy High School will be closed on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, and Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

The District has put a comprehensive support plan in place for students and staff over the coming days. Both high schools will be closed on April 21 and 22, with grief counselors and crisis support teams available on Tuesday at Normandy High School from 9:00 AM–1:00 PM and on Wednesday at Valley Forge High School during the same hours. School will resume on Thursday, April 23, with counselors continuing to be available on site, and additional support offered on Friday, April 24, when adjusted schedules will be in place due to testing.

The District is grateful for its strong collaboration with local law enforcement, and confirms that emergency safety protocols were implemented as designed. The District extends its sincere appreciation to staff, students, and first responders from Parma and Parma Heights, along with partners at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), for their swift and coordinated response.
