Extended Day Child Care

The Parma City Schools’ Extended Day Child Care programs are tuition-based programs licensed by the Ohio Department of Education and sponsored by the Parma Board of Education. The programs are designed to provide before and after school childcare for children enrolled in kindergarten through sixth grade in the Parma City Schools. Each of our sites follows the policies and procedures outlined in our School Age Child Care Licensing Requirements through the ODE and also requirements unique to the buildings in which they are housed.

The Parma City Schools' extended day child care programs will be staffed by trained, nurturing caregivers before and after school. It is our goal to provide a safe, enjoyable, enriching environment which supports the emotional well being of every child, whether we are housed in the gym, cafeteria, media center, classroom, etc. Our program is not simply a longer school day. It is different in structure and content, but we offer a well-balanced curriculum that provides many opportunities for play and social development while also encouraging learning, personal discipline, recreational skills, and health and safety skills. We have a flexible daily schedule that may vary slightly from building to building. On a daily basis, children are encouraged to participate in planned whole group and small group activities as well as personal choice activities. Schedules and activities are planned to achieve a balance of active and quiet experiences and to address individual needs, interests and developmental levels of the children in our care. Within the daily schedule, the programs will offer a variety of activities including creative construction, imaginative play, arts and crafts, reading, puzzles, and table games, active indoor and outdoor play, project work, academic support and enrichment programs. 

The Parma City Schools' extended day child care programs are available only to children enrolled in the Parma City Schools. When enrolling families into our program, we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, cultural heritage, political beliefs, disability, or marital status. Parents must notify the staff if their child has a special need and be willing to provide our staff with information, including any reasonable accommodations that would be necessary. Children must be able to function in a 1:18 ratio. Please note our staff to child ratio, group size, and transportation plans when considering out-of-school care. Reasonable accommodations cannot include the hiring of additional staff, as the program is self-supporting and the additional cost would require a significant increase in tuition. A change in the staff to child ratio and group size would also fundamentally alter the nature of the program.

EDC locations: The following elementary schools will have before and after school EDC at their locations: Dentzler, Green Valley, John Muir, Pleasant Valley and Thoreau Park. Ridge-Brook students EDC location will be at Thoreau Park. They will need to be dropped off at Thoreau Park in the morning for the Before School EDC program and will be bused to Ridge-Brook for the start of their school day. For the After School EDC program students will be bused directly after school back to Thoreau Park for EDC.

Operation of elementary school programs and/or on-site locations is contingent upon enrollment and staffing.

Middle School EDC will be for 5th and 6th grade students only at Greenbriar and Shiloh. Greenbriar students will be bused directly after school to Shiloh for EDC. There is no EDC available for middle school students at Hillside. Operation of middle school programs and/or on-site locations is contingent upon enrollment.  

EDC Payment Schedule

PAYMENT POLICY FOR CHILD CARE SERVICE: Tuition for Extended Day Child Care Services must be pre-paid monthly or bi-monthly by the 15th of the month prior to the service period. A schedule of EDC service periods and due dates will be listed on the Tuition tab of our website. The schedule will also be included with the enrollment information registered parents receive.

Extended Day Child Care is licensed by the Ohio Department of Education. Staff:child ratios of 1:18 are maintained. Children must be capable of functioning safely in the group and within the stated ratio. Because programs are self-supporting, our EDC budget cannot accommodate children in need of lower staff to child ratios, or 1:1 supervision.

We rely on full and timely tuition payments from parents who contract for child care services. No child care will be provided unless payment for service has been credited to your account.

TAX INFORMATION: Statement of total child care costs for tax purposes is sent to families by email in January. You can also access this information at any time by logging into your account at MyProcare.com.

EXTENDED DAY CHILD CARE TUITION RATES FOR 2025 - 2026:

• K-4 Before School: Opens at 7:00 AM
  Four to five days $47.00 per child, per week
  One to three days $42.00 per child, per week
   
• K-6 After School: Closes at 6:00 PM
  Four to five days $57.00 per child, per week
  One to three days $49.00 per child, per week
   
• K-4 Before/After School: Opens at 7:00 AM - Closes at 6:00 PM
  Four to five days $92.00 per child, per week
  One to three days $79.00 per child, per week

• The Parma City School District does not accept Cuyahoga County Child Care Vouchers as payment for service. 

SNOW/CALAMITY DAYS:

As stated in the Extended Day Care Parent Handbook, childcare tuition-based budgets are determined using the number of scheduled school days, and there is no adjustment in tuition for snow/calamity days. We rely on full and timely payments from contracted parents for all scheduled school days. Our goal is to continue to be able to provide childcare for you by maintaining self-sufficiency, as Children's Services staff members are not paid using the district's General Fund.
