Academic Calendar for 2016-2017

  • Students, staff, and members of the community are invited to preview the draft academic calendar for the 2016-2017 school year.  The attached calendar shows important dates such as the beginning and ending dates of instruction, scheduled holiday breaks, and the end of each marking period.  Calamity days (“snow days”) are now calculated based upon hours of instruction beyond the state minimum.  The minimum hours per school year in Ohio is 1001 hours for grades 7-12 and 910 hours for grades K-6.  The length of the school day in our schools is 400 minutes at high school, 410 minutes at middle school, and 375 minutes at the elementary level.  Because the Parma City School District exceeds the state minimum hours by the equivalent of several days at every grade level, school may be canceled for calamity days if necessary by up to 9.4 days at high school, 16 days at middle school, and 9.4 days at the elementary level without adding additional make-up days to the calendar.  If you wish to provide feedback on this draft calendar, you may e-mail your comments at
