Welcome to the Ridge-Brook Discovery Center, a 21st Century Community Learning Center.  This federally funded program is a FREE after-school program designed to serve 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students attending Ridge-Brook and Thoreau Park Elementary schools.  The Discovery Center is located at Thoreau Park Elementary School.  Ridge-Brook students are provided free transportation after school to Thoreau Park to participate in the Discovery Center program.

The Discovery Center provides a safe environment for students to participate in homework help, tutoring and enrichment activities in technology, the arts, character education, physical fitness, and many more areas of interest.  Students will have the opportunity to attend field trips.  Families are invited to participate in our “family fun nights”.  We will also enjoy field trips to exciting places such as the Cleveland Metroparks and museums. 

The Discovery at Thoreau Park is open Monday – Friday 3:30 – 6:00 PM for three sessions. Students should attend all five days but must attend at least four days.  We will also go on field trips and have fun family events. This is a very popular program and space is limited. Students will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. We will have a waitlist. 

Once a student is enrolled, we ask that they attend the entire session.  

Session #1                October 17 – December 9
Session #2                January 9 – March 3
Session #3                March 20 – May 12

When school is closed, the Discovery Center will also be closed.

Parents and/or guardians are responsible for arranging a way home for their child each day from Thoreau Park Elementary School.  Pick up time is 6:00 PM.  If your child will be absent or need to leave early, please contact the Discovery Center office at 440-885-8379.

The registration packet can be completed online, downloaded and emailed to the site coordinator Laura Coufalic at CoufalicL@ParmaCitySchools.org. It can also be found in Ridge-Brook's main office, and completed forms can be returned to the main office. 

In addition to the registration packet, a transportation form must also be completed and returned.
