First Grade Information

  • We have lots of exciting things happening in First Grade! 

    In each subject students should:
     
    Reading:
    Read and be able to comprehend first grade stories
    Understand author's purpose (to entertain, persuade, or inform)
    Be able to sequence events (put events in order)
    Be able to ask questions about a story
    Know the characters, setting, and plot of a story
     
    Writing / Grammar:
    Be able to write complete sentences using a capital letter, correct punctuation, and finger spaces
    Be able to understand and use nouns and verbs
    Be able to respond to a story 
     
    Math:
    • Add and subtract whole numbers
    • Be able to explain answers using words
    • Use multiple strategies to show an answer
    • Tell time to the hour and the half-hour
    • Build and take apart plane and solid figures
