What is Career Assessment?
-
Career assessment is a formal assessment offered to students with an IEP as a part of their transition programming. A career assessment is generally completed during a student’s freshman or sophomore year of high school. Career assessment is designed to assist students in exploring careers that may be of interest to them. It is also meant to aid students in making educated decisions about what high school classes to take to work toward achieving post-secondary goals (college, career and technical education, work, etc.). Students are made aware of the Career and Technical Education Programs offered through the Parma City School District and informed on the process for applying to a program. Career Assessment results are used by a student’s IEP case manager as a part of the IEP in the areas of transition, employment, education and independent living. These reports are also used by adult agencies such as the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities and Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities when considering the continuum of services for students after graduation.
