Mark Horvath - Class of 1977

  • Mark Horvath 1977
    Mark was a proud member of the football and wrestling teams during his high school career. He earned six letters from 1974 to 1977. In football he was part of the 1974 and 1976 Lake Erie League Championship teams. The 1976 team completed a 9-1 record and was ranked second in the Cleveland Region final state poll. Mark earned All-LEL and All-District honors and was selected to the Sun Post, Plain Dealer and Cleveland Press All-Scholastic Teams. He was selected as the captain of the football and wrestling teams.
     
    In wrestling, Mark was a two-time district qualifier and placed fifth in the state tournament in the 185 pound weight class. He earned All-LEL, All-District and All-State recognition during his senior year. 

    Mark attended Kent State University on a football scholarship and lettered two years. After graduating from Kent, Mark returned to Valley Forge High School and coached both JV and varsity football teams under head coaches Max Schindler and Bill McCleave.
