Dave Kencson - Class of 1965

  • Dave Kencson  Dave participated in football, basketball, and baseball, earning eight letters from 1962 to 1965. He was elected captain of all three teams during his senior year.  In 1964, he quarterbacked the Patriots football team to their first Lake Erie League championship.

    In basketball, Dave set the record for most points scored, made the All-LEL Team and the Plain Dealer Dream Team. He went on to play all three sports at Rutgers University.  
    He transferred to the University of Cincinnati to play football. He was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Academic Team twice and earned three degrees at UC.  He coached football at Cincinnati for one year.

    Dave was a head football coach for 25 years and coached basketball for 30 years. In 1975 he was selected as the Dunkel State of Florida high school football Coach of the Year. Dave was also named the Jacksonville, Florida area Coach of the Year three times, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast football Coach of the Year in 1988.
