Mike specialized in track and field and did it well.  His name is still on the Patriot track record board for many events.  he was mentored by a hurdling guru, Bob Vicek, and later became one.  

 

Mike set a Knights of Columbus hurdles record.  He was Lake Erie League hurdles champion with a school record, long jump champion with a school record and high jump champion.  Mike was also a winner of several events in sectional and district meets.

 

He placed fifth in the Ohio High Jump as a junior and set a Valley Forge High Jump record of 6'7 1/2" while finishing second in Ohio as a senior.  Mike anchored the shuttle hurdles relay team to the fastest time in Ohio in 1974.
