Richard Fleming - Parma Senior High School Class of 1958
As a two-year letterman on the first Parma Senior wrestling teams, Fleming holds the distinction of being the first to wrestle a varsity match as a Parma Redmen.
Fleming wrestled at Miami University, earning three varsity letters. He won the 1960 Mid-American Conference Championship at 123lbs. He also qualified to compete in the NCAA National tournament.
After college, Fleming returned to Parma High to teach and coach wrestling. In his seventeen-year career as head coach, he amassed a school coaching record of 117 career dual meet wins and produced many state placers and qualifiers. His 1978 team won the LEL Championship with a 9-0 record and he was awarded Coach of the Year.
In 1988, he left Parma High to take over the wrestling program at Baldwin-Wallace College; a position he would keep for twenty-three years. He surpassed the 100 dual meet win milestone at B-W and coached many outstanding individuals including one NCAA Division III national champion, several runner-ups, and numerous placers and qualifiers. In 1995, he was inducted into the Ohio Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame.
