Policies and Procedures for Computer Applications I
Mrs. Tancredi-Kovach
2007-2008
Overview
Computer Applications 1 is a one-half credit, one semester course designed to empower you to use the computer in and out of the school setting. Students will be introduced to OpenOffice as well as Microsoft Access. This class is a requirement for graduation from Parma City Schools.
Keyboarding is reviewed in the beginning of the course to promote success in Computer Applications. Word processing, spreadsheet, database and graphic activities will be learned, practiced, and applied to other curricular areas during the eighteen weeks. If time allows, the Internet may also be explored.

Attendance
-
Is VERY crucial in this class since many lessons are taught through demonstrations. Just like math, computer skills build off each other.
-
If you are absent, or fall behind in your work, make arrangements to come in and make up work. My office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:45-3:15 p.m. I will also do my best to accommodate lunch/study halls. Please let me know your intentions prior to showing up. I try to be has accommodating as possible, so if you need me to stay later, ask a day or two in advance.
-
All assignments must be completed under my supervision. If you absent from class, expect to take a minimum of 2 after school sessions to get caught up.
-
We DO NOT have catch up days during class. I will not halt every student's progress to individually tutor one student due to absences or failure to meet class expectations.
-
Lastly, if it is an unexcused absence or a suspension, I reserve the right to grant partial or no credit.
Make-up Work
-
Ask your buddies what you missed and check the assignment calendar
-
You must come to me! I will not come to you!
-
Due: number of days absent x 2.
-
Make arrangements with me to work on assignments (see above).
Teacher Absence
-
If I am out a day, you will be given an alternate assignment. You are ONLY to work on the assignment at hand. Follow the directions given by the guest teacher.
-
All classroom expectation and lab rules still apply!
-
If you choose to be disrespectful or act like a child, you will lose fifty points. These points do NOT come out of your behavior points. It will be deducted from your overall grade.
Behavior Points (includes Tardies)
-
Each quarter you will receive fifty behavior points. You may keep all fifty points by meeting class expectations.
-
Behavior that will warrant the loss of points includes but is not limited to the following: tardiness, being out of seat, bringing food/water to your work station, gum chewing, talking, being on the Internet without permission, playing games without permission, off-task, disruptive behavior.
-
The amount of points deducted depends on the severity and occurrence of the behavior. When points are no longer available, other disciplinary actions will be used. This may include: a parent conference and/or teacher detentions and/or office referral. No show to any teacher detention earns an office referral.
Beverages, Food & Gum
Grading Procedures
-
Grades are based on the quality and quantity of your work, a few objective tests, a minimum of two notebook checks (75 points each), miscellaneous assignments, and attendance.
-
You will be expected to use your student planner to document due dates of assignments/tests. An assignment log will be filled out upon return of graded work so that you have access to your current grade at all times.
-
Keep all returned papers and notes organized in your binder.
-
Periodically, you will be given print-outs of your grades and missing assignments. This gives you the opportunity to verify your records against mine.
-
Before I have to complete grades (interims and report cards), I guarantee you will have a grade printout as well as a cutoff date for all work. Past work can not be made up after interims, report cards or once we have begun another unit. Extra credit assignments will NEVER be accepted late.
