Classroom Policies and Procedures
Here you will find the rules and expectations for Mrs. Pizon's second grade class.
2008-2009 Second Grade Policies and Procedures
Assignment Notebooks: All students have been given an assignment notebook to write down their daily work. We fill in the assignment notebook together in class. All you need to do is check it daily and make sure the assignments are complete. I do not check every student’s assignment notebook daily, but it should be filled in as we complete it as a class. You do not need to initial it daily unless there is a consistent problem of forgetting homework. Please remind your child to return the assignment notebook to school every day. If the assignment notebook is lost or destroyed, a new one will cost $4.00.
Green Valley Folders: Each student has been given a Green Valley Folder to take home every day. This folder includes homework and important notices that need to go home. Please check the Green Valley folder daily and be sure it is returned to school every day with the assignment notebook.
Friday Folder: Your child’s graded papers will be sent home on Friday in the Green Valley folder. Please be sure to look over your child’s papers and discuss his/her progress. Also, sign the parent signature sheet and return the folder on Monday. The graded papers should remain at home.
Classroom Discipline: An effective discipline plan allows all students guidance in making good decisions about their behavior. This is essential when keeping in mind that lifelong success depends in part on self-discipline. The entire school is following the same discipline procedure, which will be discussed with your child on the first day of school.
Teachers/Subject Areas:
*All subjects will be taught by your child’s homeroom teacher except science and social studies.
Miss Petras-Teaching social studies to all second graders
Mrs. Pizon-Teaching/enriching all second graders in various writing and language skills taught by the homeroom teacher
Mrs. Steffas-Teaching science to all second graders
Specialists-Please be sure that your child has all the necessary supplies for his/her special classes. A schedule for art, music, and physical education is attached to this packet. We do not have time to allow every child to change their clothes on gym day; students must put their gym shirt over their regular school clothes.
Daily Class Preparation: Each student is responsible for completing the assigned work and turning it in on time. All students must be prepared daily for class with: textbooks, assignment notebook, Green Valley folder, homework, math home links packet, pencils and all other classroom supplies. If your child is not prepared for class this may result in a "card flip" on the behavior chart.
Book Orders: The students may have the opportunity throughout the year to order books through a book club. Orders will only be accepted with a check for the full amount made out to the book club on the order form. Please do not send cash. Teachers are not able to write personal checks for any cash received. *Book orders for Mrs. Pizon's class will not be accepted until further notice.
Field Trips: Educational field trips will be scheduled throughout the year. They are a privilege that enrich the classroom experience. Each student must earn the privilege to attend a field trip by completing his/her assignments and by displaying responsible behavior.
Birthdays: If you would like to send in a birthday treat with your child, you need to check with the classroom teacher in advance. Also, due to allergies, please send in "take-home", child appropriate, bagged treats only. Birthday invitations are not to be distributed through school.
Absent Work: If you want to pick up your child’s work at the end of the day, please notify the office that morning so the teacher has time to get the absent work prepared. Also, please remember that you only have the number of days the student was absent to turn in the completed work.
*Please refer to the Green Valley Handbook for any questions you may have regarding school-wide policies, such as lunch and recess procedures, as well as the behavior/discipline plan.
