Classroom Policies / Procedures

25% is class participation.

Each student will earn 10 points per week. You earn your points by doing the following:

1. Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings. I will give you two free tardies up to 2 minutes each quarter. After two, it will cost you 5 points every time you are late.

2. Have the materials that you need for class. (Spiral notebook, pen or pencil, homework and paper)

3. Do not bring other material that you do not need and will keep you from participating actively: cell phones, MP3 or other music players, work from other classes.

4. Do assignments you are given in class at the time they are assigned.

5. Do not talk to others while I am teaching.

6. Actively participate in the activities we do in class. Make eye contact with me during a story. No writing unless directed to do so, no speaking to classmates, no personal grooming or sleeping during class. You must act like you are here to learn Spanish.

7. Speak Spanish when we are in a story. Answer questions in Spanish with Spanish. You may speak English if I ask in English. You may also raise your hand and ask to speak in English.

Each infraction costs 5 points. A class cut will cost 20 points.

Participation can be made up in several ways. Twice per marking period you may bring in a newspaper article about a Spanish speaking country, summarize it for your classmates and turn in a written summary for 5 points. You may also write a 100-word story in Spanish using the vocabulary we are working on. I have the right to accept a story or return it to you for a rewrite. You may submit a story to make up 5 points only once per week.
