The following tips will help prepare your child for the testing:
Excellent attendance
Make certain your child is well rested and eats breakfast each morning.
Discuss the importance of testing with your child. Encourage them to do their very best!
DISABILITY AWARENESS MONTH
October is Disability Awareness Month. Our school is planning many activities for our students to build awareness and compassion for those that have disabilities. In cooperation with our wonderful PTA we will have a Balloon Launch. Coming home soon will be more details about this exciting event at our school. Our hope is that all students will participate in this event.
THE TONE ON BULLYING
Our students learned more about the negative effects of bullying and what to do if ever in a situation with a bully. The assembly that was presented by Alabaster Productions in a rock concert style that was fun, yet very educational. Students know that bullying will not be tolerated at Pleasantview Elementary School. Please show your support by talking with your youngsters about being kind to all at school. Thank you for your support.
HALLOWEEN PARADE AND PARTIES
We will continue our Halloween Parade and parties this school year. Our Halloween parade will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2007. Our classes will also have their Halloween parties following the parade. Grades K (PM)-6 will begin the parade at 1:45 PM, weather permitting. It is important for parents to realize that classes will be in session and the normal school day will continue through the end of recess at 1:15. Students will be permitted to change into their costumes after lunchtime. Our parade will be from 1:45-2:15 PM. Classroom parties will begin at 2:15 and end at 3:10 PM. While this is a happy and festive celebration for most of our students, we also recognize that many children do not observe Halloween. These students will be invited to join in alternative activities. Look for information and guidelines to come home soon!
NEW SCHOOL COLORS AT PLEASANTVIEW
Our school colors are now blue and white, which align with our cluster high school, Valley Forge. Our mascot is still the Python and our school motto is “Demonstrating Excellence”. More details forthcoming regarding an upcoming spirit wear sale that will have these new school colors.
PRINCIPAL’S GOOD NEWS CALLS
I may be calling your home! This program is to recognize our students for good deeds, good efforts or good accomplishments. Staff members at our school recommend students. The principal calling just might be a good thing!
One of Pleasantview’s goals this school year is to continue to improve our students’ math and reading achievement scores. One way parents can assist is to purchase math flashcards for their child to practice math facts daily at home. Only 5-10 minutes a day working with these flashcards will improve math skills. Encourage your child to read or to be read to daily for only 10-15 minutes a day. Our school will continue to participate in the Accelerated Reading program. All students in grades 1-6 are expected to participate.

Pleasantview students recognized Constitution Day by participating in a variety of activities in their classrooms. Some of the day’s activities include: First Graders learned about the many sections of the Constitution and even discussed some of the amendments. They discussed how the constitution affects their everyday lives at school and home! Second Graders read and discussed through their “Weekly Readers” article about the Constitution and the American Flag and the Pledge of Allegiance. Fourth Graders discussed the branches of government as outlined by the Constitution. It was a day of reflection about the meaning of the constitution in their lives.

The walk is sponsored by the National Down Syndrome Society to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down Syndrome. Dustin, Lily, and Olivia collected money to help fund educational programs, services and grants that are offered locally. We are proud that these Pleasantview Pythons are “Demonstrating Excellence” in the community.
