New England Field Trip 2005 Day 2

Boston Trip – Day Two: Newport and Plymouth

Day two was significantly...slow. After waking up (a little later than yesterday! Yay!) we trundled off to our first destination: Mystic Seaport. A very beautiful town indeed, Mystic is one of the few ports left with whaling ships, according to sources. The groups split their ways, finding their own amusements (horses, blacksmiths, ship, shops, etc). After Mystic, we bussed over to Newport, Rhode Island. Here we had a bite to eat, and then off to Newport's famous mansions. The first of these mansions was actually used in the movie 'The Great Gatsby' as Gatsby's mansion. The other was the illustrious Vanderbilt mansion, the family having been associated with wealth through many outlets of media and such. The mansions weren't lived in however; they are now part of the Historical Society, and are strictly for viewing (and weddings under the right circumstances). From here we all headed to historical Plymouth, Massachusetts. In Plymouth, we ate, explored a wee bit, then headed back to the hotel for the night.

A whole mess of peoples at the Plymouth hotel.
