New England Field Trip 2004 Day 5

Boston Trip: Day Five - Shear Madness and the Journey Home

Saturday night, was probably the most fun we had on the trip period! We left the hotel at 9pm, after a few hours of free time. Thankfully, the Prudential Center Mall was nearby, and we were easily able to kill the time. A few people, accompanied by Mr. Maxson, headed to the Hard Rock Cafe, but most, I saw, were at the Cheesecake Factory and Dick's Last Resort, not wanting the long walk in the heat.

Thankfully, this outing didn't warrant the immense hair-doings, and outlet usage, otherwise we might've given the poor hotel a power-outage, what with every air conditioner in the hotel on to dispel the 90-degree heat.

Anyway, as we left the hotel, many of us were apprehensive about how the show would be, at first. It was in a tiny theatre, in the middle of a back alley, in the dark, in Chinatown. Although we didn't know a lot about Boston, it was a rather shady deal in all.

However, as we sat down and the show started, within the first five minutes, we were roaring with laughter at Tony, the gay stylist, his brain-dead, trashy assistant Barbara, and their zany customers. As the story unfolded, two of the customers turned out to be undercover cops, and the landlady to the salon, Isabel, had been murdered. Immediately, everyone became a suspect, but there were too many fishy details during the re-enactment.

The affluent, middle-aged Mrs. Schubert, was trying to cover up her doings, the slightly well-off antiques dealer Mr. Lawrence, who would try to skew every detail of what he did, even covering up his involvement with Barbara. The ditzy redhead herself, with her thick Bostonian accent, claimed she couldn't remember any detail of discovering the body. Tony was surprisingly silent half of the time, only trying to cover up his anger at the pianist.

The innuendos in most of the jokes caused rip-roaring laughter, not to mention the jokes cracked by members of the audience as they pointed out to the characters what really happened.

Returning to the hotel at almost midnight, it was hard for any of us to calm down and actually get to sleep, but it was managed for everyone, I imagine, before 2am.

The next day, we packed our suitcases for the last time, pulled out of the hotel, and sleepily boarded the bus for what would be our long journey home. Characteristically, almost everyone was in pajamas, or extremely relaxing clothing, for we would be sitting on our posteriors for most of the day.

Of course, the restaurant of choice for the day was McDonald's, and their rather malnutritious cuisine. Yet after nothing to eat, I suppose, even that food can be appetizing. We only did stop three times, the fourth time, us being so close to home, we vehemently objected, and they ordered the driver to drive on.

Much ahead of schedule, we arrived back on the front steps of Normandy at 7:35pm. Sadly almost, we departed the bus for the last time, said farewell to the driver, and left with our parents. Although the trip was fun, I imagine everyone was glad to be home.

All of us on the Boston Trip would like to finally thank Mrs. Woz for putting this trip together, and caring enough for her baby to miss out on all of our great fun, and all four of our chaperones for putting up with all of our insanity for the past five days!
