New England Field Trip 2004 Day 2

Boston Trip – Day Two: Newport and Plymouth

Today was the second day of our thrilling trip. Everyone was up bright and early at 7a.m. for breakfast downstairs in the ballroom of the Holiday Inn, which, while maybe a bit pricey, totally worth every penny as the food was excellent.

Of course, we all packed up and headed back into our 5-day home, the bus. After not much travelling, we reached Mystic Seaport, Connecticut. Even from a distance, you could see the great masts of their three ships spearing up into the sky. After two hours there, and a small trip or two into the past, everyone was gathered out front for a huge group photo of the Normandy students.

We settled in for about an hour or two, before we reached the ocean, where the beautiful sight pulled many astonished exclamations from many students who have never before seen a sight like this one. Also, the beautiful homes of Rosecliff and the Breakers were a true astonishment, as their opulence and grandeur proved to be inspiring to many students.

Everyone gathered out in front of the coastline, for yet another, but definitely more beautiful, group picture. The view of the sea from behind those beautiful limestone rails was truly the most beautiful thing I’ll probably see on this trip. Even the massive, ornate rooms of Vanderbilt’s summer home, the Breakers, couldn’t capture my heart like the blue gem of the sea, stretched in front of me.

After a two-hour journey through Rhode Island, and into Massachusetts, we came to the historical town of Plymouth, where we settled into the Governor Bradford Inn, directly on the waterfront, where we are now, as we write this for you. The weather is very chilly, but thankfully, our rooms have heat. I can’t wait to go into Boston tomorrow, and see the Pops! More tomorrow from us!
