| Welcome to our outdoor classroom!! It is an area where hands-on learning takes place and our students "live" Science, rather than just read about it. This classroom has many special features which help to make learning more interesting and exciting for the students. Just inside the "doorway" is a spacious deck where classes may gather for lessons, observations, or an outdoor lunch. Just off the deck are 40 raised beds, which provide school families the opportunity to garden together during the summer. If you walk to the opposite side of the classroom, you will venture into the wetlands. The focal point in this habitat is the pond, with its natural vegetation and the wildlife it attracts. Beyond the wetlands is the butterfly garden in the shape of the blue morphos butterfly. Created by students, the garden’s purpose is to attract butterflies and provide the opportunity to study their life cycles. Each of these special areas in the classroom is connected by a woodchip path used by students during recess as a walking path. Green Valley students and families have enthusiastically supported this project. Take some time to walk through our outdoor classroom and enjoy this area as much as our students do! |
