As parents of children with special needs, we share and are aware of the questions, concerns and challenges of raising children with disabilities.

The Parent Mentor Program:

• is funded by a grant from the state of Ohio's Department of Education
• is designed to provide information and support to families of children with disabilities
• serves as a liaison between families and school district personnel to foster positive teamwork between parents and professionals

• Guide parents through the special education process
• Listen and answer questions on a one-on-one basis
• Supply information about special education programs offered in the Parma City School District
• Link parents to support groups, other parents and community resources
• Help develop IEP's and attend team meetings as needed
• Organize and conduct workshops for parents and professionals
• Assist parents in becoming more involved in their child's education by providing the support and information parents need
