The Parent Mentor Program From Lisa Neumeyer and Michelle Pallo: Parent Mentors As parents of children with special needs, we share and are aware of the questions, concerns and challenges of raising children with disabilities. The Parent Mentor Program: - is funded by a grant from the state of Ohio's Department of Education
- is designed to provide information and support to families of children with disabilities
- serves as a liaison between families and school district personnel to foster positive teamwork between parents and professionals
Support and Services - Guide parents through the special education process
- Listen and answer questions on a one-on-one basis
- Supply information about special education programs offered in the Parma City School District
- Link parents to support groups, other parents and community resources
- Help develop IEP's and attend team meetings as needed
- Organize and conduct workshops for parents and professionals
- Assist parents in becoming more involved in their child's education by providing the support and information parents need
