The information in this Help Desk Hint applies to:
- AVerKey Plus on Windows 95
Summary
This Help Desk Hint gives the step by step process for setting up the AVerKey Plus to work with Windows 95. It also gives a few additional hints on setting up the VCR.
Problem
When you attach the AVerKey to the computer, Windows 95 still remembers that there was a monitor hooked there first. This created the need to use the software located in the box. This software can cause several different types of problems with the monitor including, but not limited to, shrinkage in the display, a loss of colors, or a blank screen.
Solution
- Click on Start, Shut Down, Shut Down Computer
- Attach the AVerKey Plus between the computer and the monitor (See Help Desk Guide for detailed instructions)
- Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel
- Double Click on Display, verify that you are set to 640x480 and at least 256 colors
- Click on OK, you may need to restart the computer.
- Double Click on System, Click on the Device Manager Tab
- Click on the plus sign next to the word Monitor
- Click on whatever monitor is listed below
- Click on the Remove button, Click on OK, Close the Control Panel
- Click on Start, Shut Down, Restart Computer
- When Windows reloads, it will inform you that it has found some new hardware. Namely, it has found an unknown monitor. No action on your part is needed. Windows 95 is now sending out the correct signal to drive both the AVerKey and the monitor at the same time.
- The following are hints for setting the VCR to video or Aux. In
- On the VCR, verify that the video cable is plugged into Video In
- Try moving the channel selector to below 2
- Try pressing the TV/VCR button
- Look under the VCR’s menu to change the signal source
Benefits
- No muss, no fuss, what is on the monitor is on the screen
