Normandy Day Care

The Parma City School District sponsors a Day Care Center located at Normandy High School. The Center opens at 7 AM and closes at 6 PM. We care for children between the ages of six weeks and 5 years old. The morning portion of the daily schedule includes a preschool component and developmentally appropriate activities. The center is licensed by the Ohio Department of Education and is inspected by the Cuyahoga County Board of Health. The center is staffed with certificated and trained caregivers.

We run a developmentally appropriate program using developmentally appropriate materials and activities designed to provide learning experiences in all areas of development: social, emotional, physical, and intellectual.

Hours of Operation

The center is open all regularly scheduled school days plus teacher inservice days. The center is not in session throughout the summer. Tuition varies depending upon the age of the child and the number of days needed. For more information and to schedule a tour of the center, please call 440-885-2409.

Admission Policy/Registration

To initially register a child in the Center, the parent/guardian must complete the preliminary information form. If space in the Center is available for the child, a $35 per child or $45 per family non-refundable registration fee is required plus a non-refundable tuition deposit equal to one full week’S tuition. Registration fees and tuition rates are subject to change. After enrollment, each subsequent year an Intent-to-Return form with the registration fee and deposit is required. We cannot accept an Intent-to-Return form if there is an overdue balance. Registration fees are not applied toward tuition. Withdrawing and re-enrolling requires another registration fee.

Before a child enters the Program, appropriate medical and informational forms must be completed and a pre-admission conference with the Director must have been held.

We do not discriminate on the basis of disabilities. Parents should notify the Day Care Director if their child has a special need and be willing to provide our staff with information, including any reasonable accommodations that would be necessary. Please note our staff to child ratio and group size when considering Day Care arrangements. Reasonable accommodations cannot include hiring of additional staff, as the program is self-supporting and the additional cost would require a significant increase in tuition. A change in the staff to child ratio would fundamentally alter the nature of the program. The administration will make an individualized assessment about whether the center can meet the particular needs of a child without fundamentally altering the program.

Staff/Child Ratios

We adhere to the staff/child ratios as required by the Ohio Department of Education Preschool Licensing Rules and Regulations.

Age Group

Staff/Child Ratio

Maximum Group Size

Infant through 18 months

1:5 or 2:12

12

18 months to 36 months

1:7

14

3 year olds

1:12

24

4 year olds

1:14

28

It is our goal to provide a safe and comfortable environment within these ratios. Children must be capable of functioning safely in the group and within the stated ratio. Because the Day Care Program is self-supporting, it cannot accommodate children in need of a lower staff to child ratio or 1:1 supervision without significantly impacting the cost of tuition. This would result in an undue hardship on the program.

Staff Training

Our staff must complete 15 hours of inservice training in group childcare practices each year, or hold a valid Ohio Department of Education Pre-Kindergarten certificate/license in addition to completing 15 training hours each year. The training includes basic first aid, communicable disease recognition and prevention, and child abuse recognition and prevention. Our staff is not trained in delegated nursing plans, and nurses assigned to Normandy are not always on duty during Day Care hours. These operating procedures may need to be considered when planning appropriate care for your child.
