ELEMENTARY CONSOLIDATION PLAN
At the request of the Board of Education, the administration began to formulate a plan which would consolidate elementary students into fewer buildings. After several months of planning and review, the administration has recommended that the district close Parkview and Pleasantview Elementary Schools and the Arlington building which houses the First Step pre-school program.
Under this proposal, the students from Parkview would move to either Renwood, State Road or Thoreau Park based on their proximity to those buildings. Students from Pleasantview would move to either Pleasant Valley or Parma Park. The First Step program would move to the Parkview building.
The Parkview building will remain open as the new location for the First Step program and also the Early Childhood Care program which is currently housed at Normandy High School. That move will allow for more available classroom space at Normandy. The Pleasantview building would be closed with the property possibly being offered for sale at a future date. The Arlington building would be closed and likely offered for sale as well.
The Board of Education is expected to vote on this plan in January 2009. If approved, the plans to transition students, staff and equipment will begin within a few weeks of the vote.
