John Muir Cupolas

John Muir Elementary School: Cupolas (Cost $114,822)

This elementary school was constructed in 1930, with building additions in 1951, 1959, 1997. The Cupolas are part of the original school building’s slate roof. The original purpose of the cupolas was to provide airflow but many years ago were by-passed as a new ventilation was installed in the building. Over the years, the cupolas have become damaged by weather and started to rot. As the cupolas were incorporated into the slate roof structure, the repair ensured the continued stability of the slate roof.
