Welcome to the Able Learner Program
What are we? The Able Learner Program (ALP) serves elementary students in grades 3-6 that have been identified as gifted in the area of superior cognitive ability. ALP serves students from all fifteen elementary schools within the Parma City School District.
ALP is a four-year, sequential program designed to meet the unique intellectual and emotional needs of the gifted learner. One day a week, identified students take a district school bus from their "home school" to the ALP resource room located at Parma Senior High School. The Able Learner Program expands upon what gifted students are learning in their regular classrooms by emphasizing critical thinking, creativity, and logic. The use of problem-solving skills is also emphasized through hands-on activities and real-world situations. Longer project-based units are connected to the the State Standards and develop independent work habits.
